39 days till USA

So, just as I thought, July is already so much better! It is amazing what a change in attitude and perspective can do.
English classes are a still a struggle, the boys still could care less about anything and fight with me over everything, but I've come to terms with sitting in silence and have gotten really creative with my lessons. Yesterday I spent almost the whole half hour with Nico listening to music in English. On Tuesday we spent the whole time talking about the class of kids I teach English to. Most of the time it's me talking and him saying yes or no but hey it's something! Matias and I continue to listen to frozen and he now sings part of it in English! So great! Lucas, well he's always been the crazy one and that doesn't change with class usually. We will keep trying.
On Wednesday one of my friends that I met in San Sebastián, Spencer came to Coruña and visited me for the day. He just finished the Camino de Santiago and had an extra day so we met up! It was so great to see an old friend. He reminded me of all the reasons I fell in love with Spain and made me even more excited for July. We explored the whole city and went to lots of parts I hadn't even walked to yet. It was a beautiful day with lots if sunshine and we hung out at the beach and enjoyed the clear skies. Recently finding out there is a Tagliatellas here in Coruña, we obviously had to go since it was one of our favorite places in SanSe. It was amazing and I was full the entire day. It is awesome because I know that Spencer and I will always be friends! There were no lulls in conversation and when there was silence it wasn't awkward. I feel so lucky to have made such great friends my first go around in Spain. Shoutout out to Lauren, I wish you were here and I'm so thankful for our friendship!
Matias went to the doctor and got his cast off! Hurray! His arm is really weirdly colored and he still only uses his other hand but he is excited he can swim freely again! His birthday is in August but he had his party Thursday so all his friends from school could come. We had it at this place called MoMo. It is a play place for day camps and birthday parties. It was pirate themed and the kids had a lot of fun. His cake was the best chocolate cake I've ever eaten in my entire life. So delicious!

Today is July fourth! Happy a birthday to my little sister Chloe, my little brother Jacob and to America! I am wearing one of my sorority tank tips that is the most American looking article of clothing I have with me and my American flag bow I made last summer. I went to the store and tried to find ingredients to make something fun so I could explain to the kids about 4th it July but couldn't find much to work with. I'm going to try to make a layered red white and blue drink for them tonight so wish me luck. Here is just some info about 4th of July here in Spain..Contrary to the thoughts of some Americans, the Fourth of July is a holiday solely celebrated in the United States, not the world. Nearly everyone in America celebrates the day of Americas "birth" by throwing parties, drinking copious amounts of alcohol, wearing red white and blue as well as almost burning theirselves or others with firework displays.  Spending the summer and today here in Spain let me know that nobody here gives a damn about the Fourth of July.
Nobody has talked about it all week. No one is making plans to go to the lake. There are no bbqs I'm invited to. The stores aren't selling beer cases sculpted into art. There aren't chips and burgers on the end of every aisle. There were NO American flags sold anywhere! No one is wearing flag and/or red white and blue attire except me! It's a bloody outrage. Some would go as far as to ask, "Is it even still really the 4th of July if you're not in America" part of me says no and the other, bigger part knows that the 4th of July isn't about who can throw the biggest party with the most people and the greatest firework show. Even though I'm thousands of miles away in a country that isn't America, I still am proud to be an American, proud to be free and proud to tell everyone I meet today that it is America's birthday! But I wouldn't mind a sparkler or two...

Ciao todos
Xoxo
