Happy Hump Day!

Hello all,

The past week has been kind of tough. Working with college students is something I want to do with my life but barely being out of college myself it is sometimes hard to remember that a 19 year old college student is in a very different place in their life than I am at 23. We have different priorities, different ideas, different views and different maturity levels. This is something I didn't anticipate being an issue while traveling but something I have really noticed from just being on the road for a few weeks. I am continually looking for the right line to draw with women on friendships vs leadership consultant relationships. I am someone who makes friends very easily and I can tell who I will be able to get along with almost immediately. This has come in handy meeting women and being able to tell who I can work with easily and who is someone I will have to work harder to communicate with. I am having a wonderful time creating bonds with women here in Colorado and even keeping up my relationships from Texas. It feels awesome to already feel like I have helped women see a new idea or realize their potential. There have been some ups and downs with working with this chapter already but they have made me realize that I have to always be changing with this job and reevaluating my ideas, my motives, my actions and my communication skills. I am learning so much about myself, about young women and I am always always always remembering how much I love being a part of Alpha Sigma Alpha. Another wonderful thing is I still have my fellow leadership consultants behind me every step of the way. Shout out to Aubrey, Kelly and Kiley for answering my daily questions and always being their for comic relief in our group text.
I'm also thankful for my best friends, Tara & Kyle, Ryann, Jessi and Keena, who are always there to lift me up and remind me I am missed and loved all over the country!

In other news.. I caught a cold/cough some sort of sickness on Friday that continued into the weekend. I also went to the gym with Gail, the advisor I was staying with and I have been unbelievably sore since then.

Gail left for Greece so I have moved in with a few women in the chapter and we have been having a great time. Kaitlin, Sierra and Meghan are incredibly sweet and caring. They let me use their couch and lay down almost the entire weekend so I could watch tv and recuperate. Kaitlin even is letting me stay in her bed and she is sleeping with Sierra. It has been so nice to have a room with a bed and a space for my suitcases. We also started watching the Twilight movies each night and we have finished the series!! I hadn't seen them in order in a few years so it was super fun. We also started the high school musical series which we will most likely finish tonight so I have been singing non stop (sorry to everyone who has to hear me.) I made dinner for them last night and was so happy to be in a real kitchen again. I made my favorite pasta dish with salad and french bread and it was a big hit. There is still leftovers so I'm excited to get back and eat some more today!

My cough has been an annoying addition to my daily routine. I pop about 15 cough drops a day while I'm working at Starbucks so I don't freak the public out with my non stop hacking. I am finally feeling 85% today so I am almost back to normal.

Recruitment ends tonight so we will have new members this weekend and that is super exciting!! Last night we had a pajama karaoke party and I think I really surprised some of the members with my crazy dance moves. OH WELL.  Elections are also this weekend which will be really great. I can't wait for next week to work with all the new officers and get them ready to lead their chapter to greatness!

Time to get back to work, as well as listen to more One Direction while I do it. (JUDGE ME)

Ciao ciao for now!
xoxo
Taryn
