Family Vacation

HELLO, welcome to the blog post where I brag about the great week I had with my Yaya and Kyle and Tara. If you're already annoyed, probably stop reading now...

SOOOOO anywho, vacation was awesome! I arrived at the Charleston Airport around noon on Saturday February 27th. I waited until 6:00 for Yaya to arrive. It was such a joyous occasion seeing here after two months. We rented our car and headed to the Air Force Base to get our room. We went out to eat at this random restaurant we found on Yelp. The whole night we kept switching through conversations because we couldn't stop remembering things we needed to talk about. We had a really yummy dinner and then went home. We spent quite a long time searching for a church to go to the next day. We finally found one and headed to bed.

The next morning we got up and headed to church! The church was in this HUGE and really old building. It was not very full because the main pastor was gone and the younger pastor was giving the sermon. It was a nice sermon and the people around us were super friendly and told us all about Charleston. After church we went to brunch, my favorite activity. Yaya had a crab omelette and I had eggs and potatoes with the BEST homemade ranch I have ever tasted. While we waited for our table we walked around the city market. There were so many cool things to see. Walking around markets is one of my favorite things to do. We also went on a carriage tour around the city. We saw so many beautiful homes. There is such a rich history in Charleston and it was really fun to listen to our guide talk about it all. After walking around and driving through town we found a brewery to get a glass of wine. The happy hour was wonderful and we ended up staying and having an appetizer and talking for a few hours. It was wonderful! We headed back to the base after stopping at a grocery store for some snacks. Cereal, almonds, cashews, popcorn and some coke for Yaya. We watched the Oscars in bed while eating our popcorn!

The next morning we got up leisurely and headed to Folly Beach. The weather was going to be 72 so we were prepared for a wonderful beach day. Once we arrived we were greeted with 58 degree weather near the beach and wind like no other. We parked and walked along one of the longest piers on the East Coast. It was really beautiful. We then plopped our towels and ourselves down on the beach for as long as we could handle it. We both received exfoliated sand facials and sandy almonds.
We then headed back to the city and did some walking around before stopping for happy hour at the same brewery as the day before. We got pizza for dinner and it was delicious!

Tuesday was a chill day. We did more sightseeing and walking around the city. Charleston is beautiful with so much awesome architecture. We went on a ferry boat ride to Fort Sumter. It was really cool and the boat ride was super relaxing and the weather was great. We obviously went to our happy hour place again and then a sea food place for dinner since it was the last day Yaya was with me.

Wednesday I took Yaya to the airport really early, hung around Starbucks and caught up on some hulu and netflix until it was warm enough outside to go exploring. I found a really beautiful park so I walked around and listened to a podcast in the sunshine. I had the entire day until Kyle and Tara arrived so I checked into the hotel, took a nap, watched some tv, showered and then they finally arrived!!! We went to a pizza place and hung out for a while before going to bed.

The next day we went on a two hour drive to Savannah, Georgia. It was a lovely city with lots of history and beautiful homes. We walked around the entire city, went through this amazingly beautiful park and ended our time eating lunch near the river. We headed back to Charleston for more walking around and exploring, I showed Tara and Kyle my favorite happy hour place and enjoyed some yummy dinner.

Friday we went on a walking tour around the city. Our guide told us that "we were not going on a tour, we are going on a journey." We learned a lot and got to see a lot of the cool buildings around downtown Charleston. After that we went to Middleton Place, which is a plantation. The gardens were insanely pretty and we had a nice time chasing the sun on our walking tour.

Saturday was my favorite day of all my vacation. We woke up and headed downtown to the market. The market is super fun and so big. We walked up and down King St and saw all the shops and restaurants which is always something I love to do. Then we were off to the winery!! The drive was about 45 minutes a couple islands over from Charleston. We did a wine tasting and a distillery tasting. Tara and I had some wine-a-ritas and I ate some really good pizza. There was live music, the sun was shining and I got to sit in  rocking chairs next to my two best friends. It was great. we headed back to the city, went to a rooftop bar and enjoyed the scenery, went to a few more bars and got dinner.

We got up super early the next day, said our goodbyes and I headed to Missouri.

It was so wonderful to spend vacation with three of my favorite people. Thanks Yaya, Tara and Kyle for making my vacation so great! I love you!
