So it is safe to say I forgot I had a blog...oops. The past six months of my life have been some of the busiest and best months of my life! Here is my 2018 recap!
I started 2018 out by arriving home from Boise to below freezing temperatures in Missouri. I was looking for my car in the airport parking lot trying not to freeze to death for entirely too long. In January, Chelsea moved in, and Justin moved out. Although it was a smooth transition, I was a big baby when Justin said goodbye to me. Ryann came to visit during restaurant week, which means we ate A LOT of amazing food. I hosted a couch-warming party, which was a highlight of my year. Anytime my friends let me do something that out of the box, I am happy. I did whole-30 for Lent again! My dad and Debbie came to visit me and we paused Lent (sorry Jesus) so we could make a homemade banana cream pie together since we did not do it when I was home for Christmas. I was able to hang out with Aubrey at her father's wedding! Congrats Vince!
January through May was also my last semester in grad school. Wow, I complained a lot!! The last semester was filled with studying for the comprehensive exams that we had in April. We made it through...barely. Even though I whined all through grad school, I also had a lot of fun spending time with Chelsea, Brody, Kris, Creighton, and Gio, watching the Bachelor, eating five guys fries, and laughing way too hard at stupid things. Graduation was super fun. My mom and Ryann came to celebrate, along with Chelsea's family. Ellyce, Katelyn, and Doug also came to the ceremony and then out that night. We had A LOT of fun that day/night.
May was a wild month. It started with the amazing weekend of graduation and ended with me packing up my apartment! In between, we threw Chelsea a LIT going away party, watched the Royal Wedding, and said goodbye to Chelsea as she headed back to NH. Tara and I saw Taylor Swift in Seattle and then Jessi, Keena, Tara, Kyle, and I headed to Vancouver for our first #every5trip. In college, we decided every five years we would go on a trip and the first trip was to Vancouver, Canada! Vancouver is now one of my favorite cities on earth. It was so beautiful and had everything you could ever want in a city! Beach/forest/city/mountains etc, and AMAZING food. We had the best time and I am already counting down to our next trip!
In June I moved into my downtown apartment with my new roommate Natalie!! It is big and full of windows and I am obsessed with it. I know that wherever I move next will not be this nice so I am fully enjoying it. Bella came to visit and we did all the KC things we could.
Brody left MO for NC in July which was sad, but exciting. I headed to Seattle for Megan and Greg's wedding!! It was lovely to be with the family and the weather was perfect!! The next week I turned 26. My birthday was super fun and super adult...I didn't even throw myself a party. I traveled to Boise to celebrate Baby Newsom! We had an amazing time and it was so fun to see everyone together for Tara and Kyle.
August felt weird because I was not going back to grad school!! I was sad!! I was also happy because I love not having homework. Aubrey and I went to New York to visit our friend Kelly and most of my meals were pizza. 10/10 would recommend. Ryann and Jessi visited me for the Niall Horan and Maren Morris concert, and LVG stopped by on her way from Austin to Chicago!
I began September with a Harry Potter movie marathon with Ellyce. It was the best labor day weekend I could have had because the next week I started my six weeks of travel!!
I was in Boise for a week, and LYLA RAY NEWSOM WAS BORN. I AM AN AUNT!!!! I arrived just before midnight on the 6th and she arrived around 4 am on the 7th!! She is perfect and Tara and Kyle are the most amazing parents!! I was able to see my uncle Robin get married, catch up with Brady who is home from the peace corps, and drink a lot of dutch bros. I even got to go to a Boise State game!
From here I went to Stillwater, OK for an observation visit with Cassidy. We ate Whataburger, drank too much dr.pepper and watched Boise State lose to OK State....which was sad! I then traveled to STL for an observation visit with Megan. The day before the visit was the Taylor Swift concert so I bought a cheap ticket and went alone!! I met some women who were also big fans who went alone and they somehow got me on the floor with them!!! It was the coolest night. The next day I found out my car had been broken into which put a damper on the day...but it was fixed and I moved on with my life!! (which means I cried about it for a few days and talked about my hatred for STL to anyone who'd listen)
The next trip was to Asheville, NC to meet up with Yaya and Papou, and my long lost sister Sabrina, and her mom, Lisa. I haven't seen her since we were both kids so it was really special. We had a great time and I fell in love with the beautiful North Carolina mountains. We learned about our weird similarities and things we had in common all while learning about the history of Asheville.
I was back in KC for a few days before traveling to Indy for ASA volunteer development weekend. AKA the weekend all of my friends meet back up in one of my favorite places! I was able to meet Aubrey's roommates and spend some time in my favorite airport.
Again I was back in KC for a few days before I went back to STL for Nick and Miranda's wedding. I was the wedding day of coordinator which meant I was driving around running errands and preparing a few things for the big day. It was so special for me to be there and meet all the family and give a short speech at the rehearsal dinner. The day went perfectly! The dress on my zipper broke on the way to the reception which kind of stressed me out but after a few glasses of wine and a borrowed sweater, it was fine! The next day I was truly unwell, I was hungover, I had lost my voice for the first time, and caught a cold from all the travel. I rallied and Doug, Katelyn, and I went to the City Museum for the day. Climbing through tunnels in my state was honestly one of the hardest things I've ever had to do! This may seem like a joke, but it is not. This was my last trip for a while and I was so happy to be back home in Kansas City.
October was filled with lots of volunteering and watching football with friends. Nick and Miranda had a fun Halloween party and Brody visited for UCM Homecoming!
Most of the Boise State crew met back up in November for BSU Homecoming!! With a win against BYU and plenty of Lyla time, it was a weekend of nonstop joy. I went to two friendsgivings and hosted Tarynsgiving so I was able to enjoy many plates of mashed potatoes and green bean casserole.
I am honestly still in shock that it is December already???? This past semester went by really quickly. On Christmas I am heading to Austin for APO Convention then I'll be back on NYE to ring in 2019 with my friends!!
Overall, this has been a great year. I was able to travel A LOT, see lots of friends and family, AND I have a masters degree!!!!!!! Lots to be grateful for, and many things to be excited for in 2019.
Here are some of my fave pictures from the year!!
Cheers to 2018 ending and 2019 beginning.
Ciao ciao for now (probably many months from now)
xoxo
