Hello everyone! Happy Tuesday!! I'm so excited to share my weekend with you.
Friday was such a beautiful day! So much sunshine and warmth!! Moni brought us home little paint stubs that were red yellow red striped for the spanish fútbol team! If you didn't know the World Cup is going on right now in Brazil. We painted our faces and the boys all put on their uniforms. We had a normal evening, went to the park and played, bathed, ate dinner and then at 9:00 the game started. Spain VS Holland. I was for sure thinking we would win but sadly we lost 5 to 1. We got spanked. I kept saying go! go! go! and Matias thought it was so so funny. Moni and Manu went to Barcelona for the weekend for a motorcycle festival race thing. Moni is working during part of it and Manu is a motorcycle enthusiast so Sora stayed the weekend and helped me out.
I met someone in August at the balloon festival in Boise who lives in Delaware and she has a pen pal that lives in Galicia so we became Facebook friends and she told me that there was a festival in a nearby town and that we could meet up. I asked for Saturday off and decided to go. I really needed a kid free day so I'm really happy that I took the day off and went. My new friend Leticia and her fiancé Manuel met me in a town called Lugo. It is a hour and fifteen away by bus. There was a Roman festival going on the whole weekend. It was so fun! It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine but not too hot to be walking around and watching things. Almost everyone was dressed up! It was so so awesome! I bought a flowered headband because I wanted to fit in and I love flowers and headbands so I'm so excited about it! I looked the part and I get an awesome souvineer for myself. We watched a lot of different presentations done from people all the way from Italy showing how the Romans and the Celts fought and how it is different than the movies. I ate the yummiest chocolate and banana crepe. It was so good I had it all over my face and I even managed to get some in my hair and on my earring. Way to go Taryn.
The city of Lugo in general is really quite nice. There is a cathedral and there is a Roman house and pool underneath the city that you can look at in some places that have glass floors. We went to an art museum and saw the start of beautiful wedding!
My new friends are great and we talked Spanish the whole time! It was a wonderful kid free day and I was tired but so happy at the end of it.
That night my British friend Heather said that I should meet her to go for some drinks. I haven't been out yet in Spain and I had the day off and I was already in Coruña at the bus station so I decided why not! I met them at Plaza de Pontevedra. It was Heather and Annabel, the two girls I had Spanish class with and then two other au pairs. One of them was from the States! It was nice to talk to someone from America. We kept poking fun at eachothers accents and trying to imitate the other. It was hilarious listening to the Brits try to say things in an "American" accent. We went down this small street that had a lot of tapas bars. I could have stayed there all night going from bar to bar trying the different tapas but sadly this is not San Sebastián and it was not pinxto pote. We went to a fancy bar that was in the water by the port. It was really cool but rather expensive and there weren't that many people there. Also, all the older people were there since it was only midnight. (So early in Spain) the best part about this place was it was on the water so it had a great view. The second best part was instead of olives or peanuts they gave you candy with your drinks! So yummy!
After that we went a few more hours at other places. I ended up leaving at three am which was still way early but it was just so boring for me because the places we went weren't fun places. Next time I go out I want to go with someone from Coruña. The taxi ride from town to my house was outrageously expensive and it is way too sketchy to walk so that was super annoying as well.
I was exhausted when I got home but of course the next morning I popped right awake at 8:00.
Sunday was the day the neighborhood pool opened!! It is super nice! We went twice that day! Right when it opened and then later at 4:30. In between we had lunch, took a little break and I attempted to try and teach some English. Everyday is an ongoing battle. Three hellions vs Me. I'm sad to say usually they win. Sora tries to help but she mostly just yells at them and then they keep doing whatever they were doing as soon as she leaves.
Moni and Manu came home from Barcelona that night and all of us were passed out on the couch. The sunshine made us very tired. My shoulders got very sunburnt as did my hair part from two days in the sunshine. I am not complaining though because I am happy for the sun. I almost don't have enough summery clothes. I brought a lot f rainy day outfits but the summer is turning out to be very nice so far.
On Monday the kids got home from school we had lunch and then once again I tried to teach some English. It was a disaster. After we went to the pool from 4:30 until 8:00!
Moni and I had a talk about the kids but I still don't think anything is going to change. It is so tiring and frustrating but I will just keep trekking on. There was a guy here installing the wifi and he said it was almost impossible!!!
Today Tuesday, they finally got it hooked up and it is ready to go!! I am ecstatic because now I don't have to go to McDonald's every time I have to check an email or the library to write a blog. Also, I can check my email to see what is going on in Coruña so I can do more things!
Skype me, FaceTime me, what's app me, iMessage me! Anything!
Ciao!
Un beso!
