More about SanSe

The rest of my time in SanSe was great. There was a festival called "Semana Grande," and as I understand it, it is basically just a tourist festival. Either way I got to see fireworks so I was happy. I went to a few of favorite places to eat and also tried new ones. I went to Monte Igueldo and viewed the city from the opposite side and it was breathtaking. It is hard to believe I didn't go up there the first time. I spent most of my time with Melanie. I was super lucky she was there the same time I was. She even let me keep my suitcase at her apartment and shower before I left because I had to leave my hostel by midday. I did some more beach time and really enjoyed the sun and sand. The surfing beach, Zurriola, had really big waves and they were quite scary to me but I tried to enjoy my time in the ocean.
The last day I was in SanSe, Melanie and I were walking around and we saw these two guys lining up kids around them to make the area look like a stage. It was a small, short older white guy and a really tall, fit black guy in matching clothes. It looked like it could be a funny show so we kept edging closer and when this group in front of me moved I started moving towards the kids and Melanie was making fun of me for wanting to sit with the kids. Next thing we know the white guy is standing next to us and mocking us. I started laughing hysterically and everyone was watching us and eventually he took our arms and led us to the stage to sit down and watch. The show was really funny but both guys kept looking at us during their performances and when I laughed, the black guy mocked my laugh in the middle of the show and everyone laughed!! It was hilarious and totally something that has happened to me countless times before. It was a funny show and I'm glad we got wrangled into it.
The trip home was long. I started my timer 45 minutes into my bus ride to Madrid and when I finally reached Boise I had clocked over 31 hours of travel time. When I was on the plane from Madrid to London, the flight attendant asked if I would help this lady get to Seattle because I was going there to. I said yes and she came and sat by me. She spoke hardly any English, but we spoke in Spanish and it was fine. Once we got to Heathrow it was insane! We were waiting in line for forever and she was freaking out at me in Spanish and I felt obligated to make sure we both didn't miss the flight. We ended up having to go through this speedy check out line and once we finally made it past the boarding gate we got stopped for ANOTHER security check where we had to take out everything from our carry on luggage and do some weird wand thing to our electronics. The Spanish lady didn't understand so I was trying to translate for her while this lady was making me do all this stuff and I was so exasperated by the end I all but ran to my seat. I was lucky because I had a middle seat, but the aisle seat was free so I used both and was relatively comfortable for being on a 9 hour flight. I didn't sleep much but I got lots of reading done and watched a few good movies. Once I was in Seattle I thought it was smooth sailing until I heard my name over the intercom. Turns out you have to pick up your luggage at baggage claim and move it to a different belt when you come home from international flights even if it is checked to your final destination. I had to go across the whole airport and find my luggage and move it literally 30 feet away from the baggage claim then go back to my gate. I was lucky I had such a long layover because it was no big deal to have wasted all that time. I got touched down in Boise at 12:06 pm and have never been so happy to be home.

The past week has been great. I have felt so much love from my family and friends that I've missed so much. My family made my favorite dinner for me and my friends decorated my room and re celebrated my birthday I missed. I feel so lucky to have such a strong support system at home. I've been slowly getting ready for my final semester at Boise State and trying to ready myself for another busy semester.

Thank you for reading my blog and following my adventures! I would like to keep writing, but I am not sure my life at home is quite as interesting as my life in Spain.

Until the next adventure,
xoxo
