WOW it has been a few weeks since I last blogged.
I had a wonderful week with Theta Alpha at Coe College. I absolutely loved the women there and had a lot of fun hanging out with them. I was able to go to a really cool indoor market and ate the BEST banana cream pie cupcake of my life. It was amazing. They took me to a really yummy pizza place and a delicious breakfast place before my flight out. I will forever remember Coe college as one of my favorite chapter visits from this job.
I am now in Texarkana, Texas with Kiley, one of the other consultants. We have been here for two weeks. The town is small and half of it is in Texas and half of it is in Arkansas. We will be driving somewhere and randomly realize we switched states. It has been a lot of work the past two weeks. We are starting a new chapter here at Texas A&M University Texarkana (TAMUT.) Every morning we get up and go to Starbucks for coffee and then head to campus. We table for four hours each day. Basically we set up a table with Alpha Sigma Alpha stuff and harass people to come talk to us. We have given out candy, donuts, oranges, and popcorn. We've made lots of puns and fun phrases to get people to laugh and remember our name. I have been doing the social media for the colony and I've had a lot of fun with it! This job always brings me new things to do and learn and I am so thankful for that.
Kiley and I have had a really fun time together. We have learned that we are COMPLETELY OPPOSITE on basically everything. Even with little things like how we like our coffee (she drinks it hot I drink it iced.) We compliment each other nicely because we work together and push each other when we need it.
The TAMUT campus is very small. There are only 1800 students and three buildings. One is the dorm building which is where we are staying. The staff on campus is really nice and friendly. We have made friends with the baseball team. This is the first year that TAMUT has had a baseball team so they are really excited about it. Since the campus is so small I am pretty sure we have seen 85% of the students. We see the same people each day and we are beginning to seem familiar to them which is nice because the first few days were confusing for everyone.
Last weekend we went to Memphis for 24 hours. We were sitting at the very first ever baseball game and realized it was only a four hour drive so we decided to do it. We left the next morning! The drive was nice and the first thing we did was have BBQ for lunch. It was delicious and we even got some take home cups to remember our trip. We parked our car and spent a few hours on Beale St. This is a pedestrian only road filled with touristy bars and shops. It was fun to see and the weather was amazing. After entering all the shops and listening to some smooth jazz we ended up hanging out on a rooftop people watching and talking. It was awesome. After that we walked around the city for a while, ending up looking out on the Mississippi River. IT IS SOOOOO HUGE. Terrifying.
We then met up with my dear friend Jordan and her fiance William. We spent the evening chatting, going to dinner, and more touristy Beale street activities. It was a wonderful evening and Jordan and William were the best hosts. They took us to brunch in the morning and drove us around to see a few more cool Memphis things. One thing they explained to us was how everything in Memphis was "hood adjacent" meaning every nice part of Memphis is just around the corner from a sketchier part of town. As we did more things we noticed that this was true! So funny.
Memphis was super fun and I really liked the architecture and culture in the city. I really enjoyed our 24 hours there and would love to come back again someday.
This weekend we have been doing advisor training with Shannon from headquarters. Yesterday Kiley and I found a trail and went on a wonderful nature walk. Today we are finishing up training and then going to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch Denver win the Superbowl!!
This week is my last in Texarkana until April. We are finishing up recruitment and preparing for the semester ahead. I am sad to leave Kiley but I am looking forward to heading back to Grand Junction, Colorado and hanging out with my pals there.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY BFF, CHRISTINA BRITZ TODAY!!
GOOOO BRONCOS!
Ciao ciao for now,
